Different sources place the number of United States of America Divorces caused by "Facebook" from 20% to 30% to 50%!! This is most disturbing, especially since Facebook has only existed since 2004. What is happening here?
Apparently there is a lot of "online cheating" facilitated by Facebook. Maybe those unhappy in their relationships 'look' for others there, find others there, and then connect, in person. Also, many mean, horrible comments are posted on Facebook, by those trying to 'get back' at another.
You know what they say, "Play with fire and you WILL GET BURNED!! Online 'flirting' by those in committed relationships is even more dangerous, sinister, and positively evil than in-person flirting because: 1) the Instant Nature of this type of communication: you hit that 'enter' key and the whole world knows what's going on in your life, 2) the Impersonal Nature of Facebook: regardless of the name, you are NOT face-to-face, all sorts of misrepresentation - lying - can and does go on, and 3) the Consequences of this flirting risk are just as bad as any cheating: ripped-apart families, fatherless or motherless children, poverty, PURE PAIN!!!
In the past year, I have personally witnessed this online disaster happen to a family near and dear to me. It was excruciating for the entire family. One person's online lies led to a disaster which could not be reversed.
We can't 'blame' Facebook. It is just another vehicle for good or evil. It's fun and interesting to check out what your friends and family are doing. Fortunately, it can be limited to our own circle. It's the young people, mostly, we have to protect and inform: don't 'friend' everyone!!
Lord God, please give us the wisdom to use all you have given us only for good!
