The Question is: Do adults need all those vaccinations like the kids do?
The Answer is: yes! At the very least, make sure your Tetanus vaccination is up-to-date! The average adult needs one every ten years. Check with your doctor. You want to prevent a disease that is rare but fatal.
Other adult vaccinations include the Pneumovax (just once) and Zostavax (also just once). These vaccines are highly recommended for adults over age 65. Pneumovax prevents a particular type of pneumonia. Zostavax prevents the chicken pox virus which most of us already have, from flaring up into a very painful nerve/skin disease called "shingles." My elderly uncle suffered greatly with this, as did one of my young (twenties) daughters.
Several months before I retired last year, Employee Health gave me a TD shot, combination tetanus and diptheria vaccine.
Naturally, you need to talk over with your doctor what you need, including if you have any allergies to any of the ingredients. Genuine allergies are rare.
The Flu (Influenza) shot is particularly important to get each and EVERY YEAR!!!
You would protect your children, wouldn't you? Please, protect yourself! And encourage all those you love to get this very wise protection. So many folks say, "Oh, I won't get it. I hate shots." Well, so do I! But I've seen adults of all ages die from complications of the flu. Just tell them, "One shot might prevent you from getting many, many shots and IVs in the ICUs!
I'm quite pleased with myself today: I got the Zostavax vaccine. It was very quick, no soreness whatsoever in my 'shot' arm! Now my vaccines are 100% up-to-date.
Part of good relationships involve keeping healthy for yourself and the ones you love!
Lord, please encourage good health habits in us all!
