Are you EXCITING?

If we feel dull and 'blah,' we probably ARE dull and boring. Do you have a co-worker, a relative, or an acquaintance who just blends in with the background and sometimes even doesn't appear to have a face?  Do you know the kind of person with whom if you have to spend more than a couple of minutes you want to start pulling out your fingernails?

We don't want to get stuck in a rut of 'things just seem to never change.'  Life is FUN, if we make it fun!  How do we go about this?  We develop our talents and interests.  Make some lists: 1) My Talents, 2) My Favorite Things to Do, and 3) What I Think I'd Like to Do.

Talents are our innate abilities or aptitudes, often artistic.  One person may want to play the piano and take years of lessons but never quite learn how.  Another may try to play the piano and discover how easy it is without benefit of lessons or even music!  You really can't create a talent but you can try to discover which talents you have.

My grandmother, Marie, didn't discover she could be a china-painter till in her sixties.  She volunteered to help a 'Sister' at her church and just tried it out one day. My mom, Adeline, learned to paint ceramics in her forties and turned out to be pretty good.  One of my cousins loved to paint horses with oil paints - in high school.  I particularly admire those who read lots of books and can discuss them intelligently.

But all talents certainly are not artistic.  Some folks are great at organizing volunteer events.  Others are good at all kinds of cooking and baking.  Still others can build anything out of wood or PVC pipe.  Gardeners can do what seems work to some, be fun and relaxing.  There's a fantastic Zumba instructor I know.  I think it takes talent to listen to children read and encourage them to read more.  One of my in-laws made great beer!

So, which talents have you discovered?  Which would you like to try?  Have you actually spent time enjoying any of the things on your second list?  If not, plan to take the time to do some of the things you enjoy.  This will perk you up and give you something neat to discuss.

What's on your list #3?  What have you been thinking about for years, but putting off due to time or money or whatever?  Can you start 'small' on this? I will confess that I've wanted to learn how to make stained glass objects for many years. From time to time I've seen a class advertised in the newspaper.  But, so far, I haven't even made it inside a stained glass store.  This is on my list of things to try in 2014: "Make at least one Stained Glass Christmas Ornament."

What are the corollaries, or side benefits, or trying something new?  Self-confidence!  I may not be perfect at my new skill, but, by golly, I'm trying and it's fun!  Then, we get to meet lots of new people, some of whom may turn out to be really nice friends.

That's what this blog is attempting to do: boost us up to have super-wonderful, fulfilling relationships.  We need to remember: whatever kind of person we think we are searching for, we must strive to BE that person.  If we're attracted to interesting, fun people, we need to make ourselves interesting and fun to attract them!

God has given us all MANY TALENTS!  God expects us to discover and develop our talents!  God loves us and is not stingy.  Onward!: let's do our best!
